BURGOYNE IRELAND — 2/140s × 2/140s SUPIMA SHIRTING
Most shirts are made from a regular fabric. This one is made from cotton that only exists because of a rare accident of climate.
Supima is grown on less than 1% of the world's cotton acreage. Its fibres run extra-long — nearly double the length of ordinary cotton — which means fewer joins, fewer weak points, and a yarn that spins finer and smoother than anything else on the market. Burgoyne then takes that fibre and does the difficult thing: two-ply 140s in both warp and weft. Not 2/100s. Not single 140s. Two-ply 140's on both sides of the weave.
That construction is why this cloth behaves the way it does.
It falls instead of hanging. It has the cool, liquid handle of silk with the breathability of cotton, so it wears effortlessly through any climate. It takes a press and holds it through the day. And because every thread is doubled, a fabric this fine is also genuinely durable — this is the shirt that will outlive the three you bought last year, and look better at wash fifty than it did at wash five.
Put it on and people won't be able to say what's different. They'll only know that something is.
Why waiting is a mistake?
Fabric at this count is not run continuously. Two-ply 140s weaves slowly, breaks often on the loom, and mills schedule it in small, infrequent lots — which is why fine shirting like this arrives as a piece, sells through, and then simply isn't available again until the next run, in a different shade, at a different price. Cotton at Supima grade has been climbing steadily; what you pay today is not what the next lot will cost.
