A twill weave differs from "normal" fabric (often considered a plain weave) by having a distinct diagonal pattern created by the way the yarns interlace, resulting in a visible diagonal line across the fabric, whereas a plain weave has a more even, back-and-forth pattern with no prominent diagonal lines; twill is generally considered softer and drapes better due to fewer interlacings between yarns compared to a plain weave.
